Daisy Hill Hospital needs to be given assurances for future says Ennis
South Down Sinn Féin MLA Sinéad Ennis says that the Assembly is needed now for an Executive to invest £1 billion extra into health and tackle the on-going challenges.
Following a meeting with the Southern Trust, Sinead Ennis said: “The DUP’s Protocol-before-people approach is causing unbearable pressure on the health service.
“Our hospitals need investment. Daisy Hill plays a huge role in providing care to everyone in the Greater Newry, South Armagh and South Down area with potential to be a key regional hospital.
“Sinn Féin is committed to seeing investment into Daisy Hill to ensure an expansion of services, this includes establishing Daisy Hill as a protected hub for elective surgery.
“Establishing more elective surgery hospitals will help tackle growing waiting lists and ensure people have access to services at their local hospital.
“During Sinn Féin’s meeting with the Chief Executive of the Southern Trust, I pressed the need to see a speedy transfer of Newry Mourne and Down Councils’s Monaghan Row site to the Southern Trust.
“This will allow Daisy Hill hospital to expand and provide more clinical and bed space within the hospital.
“We have made clear this needs to happen as soon as possible to alleviate pressures on waiting times and health care workers.
“Finance Minister Conor Murphy is committed to investing £1 billion into our health service. This would see much needed investment in services here at Daisy Hill.
“Sinn Féin are ready to form an Executive, agree a three year budget and start tackling the issues facing health and social care and we are calling on the DUP to get back to work and join us.”
