Our Schools Need You – Education Minister expresses gratitude to volunteers after appeal.
Education Minister Peter Weir has thanked all those in the education sector who have volunteered to give urgent assistance in response to Covid-19.
The Minister said: “On Friday 27 March and Monday 6 April, I issued calls for volunteers to assist our dedicated teaching and non-teaching staff in schools providing educational supervision for vulnerable children and for the children of key workers.
“Today, I wish to express my sincere thanks to all who have offered to help out at this very difficult time. I am very encouraged by the number of volunteers who have already come forward.
“In the current unprecedented circumstances, these volunteers will help to ensure that our key workers can continue to carry out their vital roles in providing the help, care and support that our society requires to try to combat Covid-19.”
Appealing to all who may be able to assist, the Minister continued: “If you have not yet volunteered but would like to do so, I would encourage you to complete a registration form which can be accessed via the Department’s website.
“I cannot stress enough how valuable your contribution will be, not only to our schools, but to society as a whole.
“To those who volunteer and to those who may not be called to help but still took the time to register their interest, I want to thank you all once again for your dedication and support in these very difficult times.”
