Marathon man Phlip Vint completes his 10th marathon for 2024 at Tollymore Forest Park
- 26 Extreme Tollymore Trail Marathon (Philip Vint 100 not out)
On Saturday morning, 26 Extreme hosted its Tollymore Trail 10k Half Marathon and Full and Ultra Marathons. The full marathon takes in two full laps of Tollymore forest park, with uneven forest tracks and a few challenging climbs. This event is no normal maratho writes Martin Willcox.
EDACs marathon man Philip Vint has been chipping away at the marathons this year to reach the outstanding landmark of 100 marathons completed.
Philip picked Tollymore marathon as his 100th for the challenge as it is local and it is a very picturesque route.
With a big team of supporters and fellow club team mates to cheer him on around the course, with 108 other athletes Philip was off and with cool and dry conditions he ran a steady sensible race crossing the finish line in 3 hr 44 min in 23rd position. This was a great effort for an outstanding athlete.
Also running the full marathon was Declan Teague, another of East Down’s marathon men. He enjoys the challenge of the long-distance event and with Dublin marathon still in his legs came home in 4 hrs 29 min in 65th spot.
In the half marathon, which covered one full lap of the park, was Niamh Kellet who is not scared to take on any challenge and had a great run over this tricky course coming home in 1 hr 56 min.
Well done to Philip and all that took part, a great race and great support from friends and family.
