Mig Des Taillons has provided Downpatrick horse racing trainer with another win, this time at Musselburgh writes Joe Kavanagh.
Downpatrick trainer Pat Turley travelled to Musselburgh yesterday with the talented Mig Des Taillons and booked amateur rider Danny Mc Menamin originally from Downpatrick for the mount with the duo combining for success in EBF Novice Hurdle.
The local trainer was having his first foray outside Ireland but Mig Des Taillons following winning at Down Royal and Fairyhouse started 5/6 favourite and having hit the front two from home kept on gamely when challenged to prevail.
The victory was an all-Downpatrick success with the French-bred horse owned in partnership by the trainer’s wife and Philip Polly again from the town while the winning jockey brought his tally for the season to 23.
McMenamin who is based with trainer Nicky Richards and is enjoying a great season said: “We went a nice even gallop and he settled lovely. He’s been running well in Ireland and he’s backed it up well today.
“The biggest thing is getting him switched off early doors and he did that today. The leader steadied it up turning in and it turned into a bit of a sprint but it suited me down to the ground.
“My lad has got plenty of speed so it helped me in the end. Paddy (Turley) gave me plenty of help when I was growing up also Declan Lavery who works for him.”
