Down VHI Cul Camp 2011 Is Launched At Burrendale

st May 2011 in the Burrendale Hotel, Newcastle, there was another historic night for  the Cumann Lutchleas Gael. Plans for the 2011 Down VHI Cul Camp supported by Club Down weere unveiled by Sean Mac Caisin, Down Youth Officer and County Cul Camp Co-Coordinator along with Conor O’Toole, Down Games’ Development Manager. Guests for the evening were Seamus Walsh, County Chairperson, Seamus Ennis, Coaching Officer, Diarmuid Cahill, Bord na Og Chairperson, and Brian McGreevy, Club Down Chairperson. Sean McCashin said, “We had 3300 children taking part last year over 8 weeks (Monday-Friday) in 42 Camps. This was spread out over the County from Newry to St Paul’s, Hollywood. Age Groups He added, “Down GAA with the support of Club Down, will once again be running nursery camps this summer. The nursery camps will run from 10am – 12.30pm at a cost of £25 per child. The Cul Camps will be run from 10am – 2.30pm daily and will be open to children who will be starting P4 from Sept 2011. The maximum age limit for the Cul Camp is 13 years. The Cul Camp will cost £35 per child.” Aims for the children *  To learn new skills *  Make new friends *  Be part of a group *  Experience excitement / face challenges / involved in action *  Show Discipline *  To have FUN The camps are structured so that a different aspect of the game is worked on each day. The programme involves coaching specific skills of the game and the opportunity for children to put into practice what they have learned through small sided games. On the last day of the camp a “blitz” will be organized to provide each child with an introduction to competitive games.
