It is time to shine the spotlight on the district’s young people and celebrate their achievements.
Down District Council Chairman, Councillor Billy Walker, is now on a mission to find the district’s most outstanding youngsters and celebrate their success.

“They are our future, and I said that I would showcase their talents and the good work done by them. Well, now’s your chance to stand with me to say thank you to them for making our communities a better place to live by nominating them for one of these special accolades.”
Declaring nominations open for the Youth Awards 2015, Councillor Walker added: “I am absolutely delighted to launch the Chairman’s Youth Awards. I am looking forward to recognising the enormous contribution young people make to our community as well as recognising individuals who have made outstanding personal achievements.
“My Chairman’s awards will provide an opportunity to celebrate the successes of the young people in our area and recognise the significant contribution they make on a daily basis to individuals and our community as a whole.
“The young people that I would celebrate are not necessarily the ones who have excelled academically – even though we have a wealth of such high achievers to celebrate across the district – but young people who have overcome adversity to make a difference to the lives of others.”
Councillor Walker continued: “I would encourage everyone to take the time to complete a nomination form. This is your chance to nominate the unsung and often unseen heroes and heroines in your area – a chance to shine the light of recognition on those young people who you think deserve to be acknowledged for being very special and making a difference to the lives of others in our district.”
The suggested age range for nominations is eight to 21, but all nominations for young people under the age of 21 years will be considered.
There are eight categories to choose from, celebrating triumph across sports, arts, environment, health, volunteering, community and achievement.
The search is now on for the worthy recipients of this year’s Chairman’s Annual Awards and Down District Council is urging you to get your nomination in by Friday 20 February 2015.
