DOWN CAMOGIE NEWS. * Hurls, Helmets, Heroes and Handbags – the Down Camogie Board are hosting a fundraising night at the luxurious Slieve Donard Hotel on Sunday 29th May 2011 (Bank Holiday weekend). The night is entitled “Hurls, Helmets, Heroes and Handbags – an Abba Tribute”. It is billed as “The Biggest Camogie Party Ever” and features live Abba Tribute Band – Swede Dreamz. The ticket charge of only £10 entitles purchasers admission to the event plus individual chances to win one of 3 celebrity hurls, celebrity helmets or celebrity handbags – great value for money. It is also hoped that guests of honour, the Down All-Ireland U-16 Camogie Champions will be in attendance. Admission is strictly by ticket only which can be had from any Down Camogie Club or Slieve Donard Hotel. Doors open 8.30 pm. See you there! * Down Poc Fada will take place on Saturday 28th May 2011. The venue for the competition will be the beach at Murlough just outside Newcastle. Registration will be in the National Trust Car park at 11.30am. The categories are as follows: Hurling – Senior, Under-16, Veteran (over 35) and Camogie – Senior, Under-16, Veteran (over 35). Anyone wishing to participate on the day MUST have a spotter with him or her. Anyone without a spotter will not be able to compete. The course will be on the beach and whatever that may entail so be prepared! Rules will be given out on the day. The Down Poc Fada winners will take part in Ulster. All U-14 Camogs interested in being on the development squad are welcome to attend. The trials will be held in June (dates and venues to be confirmed).
