Working together in the Down area to address Climate Change through the Dolmens group
Since 2019 local people have been working together running events, food growing projects, organising walks, talks, and repair cafes and supper conversations.
Their key idea is to get people in our communities to think about and plan for action around the challenges of the climate emergency and biodiversity crisis.
They are focussed on local solutions where possible, believing that collective efforts and cooperation at local level can make a real difference to the deteriorating state of our planet.
It can be hard to sustain a group and keep connected, and that is why The Dolmens group is running two consecutive Saturdays to kickstart and ‘reboot’ this very focussed community collective.
Their aim is to work together on big issues that can affect small towns and communities in the County Down area and the surrounding countryside we live in ‘to make a difference’.
When it comes to climate strategy and action, they believe in ‘Keep it local’.
Based in South Down, the Dolmens group connects anyone interested in the issue of climate change, biodiversity and all things environment.
The two events take place on Saturday 30 September and Saturday 7 October, 10am to 1pm in the Castlewellan Community Centre.
Dolmens member Mary McAnulty said: “The Dolmens is a Network of people inspired by nature, by community action, and the conviction that every single person is going to be affected by these issues.
“We need to collaborate and and work out what to do right here on our own patch, using the people who are right here and learning from others who are already on the path.
“So we are inviting you to come along to our event at the Castlewellan Community Centre on:
Saturday Saturday 30th September and 7th October 2023 from 10am to 1pm.
“You will receive a warm welcome and a cuppa. Each event intends to run for 3 hours and will be an informal mixture of talks and conversation building on what we can do as a group and make the circle wider.”
