Creative Peninsula Starts This Week

Creative Peninsula – Northern Ireland’s premier celebration of Art and Craft – kicks off in Conway Square, Newtownards on Friday (4 August 2017).

For one day only, the space will be transformed into a creative hub with more than 35 artists and makers displaying and selling their work and talking about what inspires them.  Free demonstrations including silver jewellery design, watercolour painting, linocutting and woodturning will run throughout the day.

Amazing ceramic pots that blend into the character of the Strangford Lough coastline.

Taking place until Sunday 13 August 2017, the thriving celebration, which is now in its 16th year, offers a range of free and bookable opportunities for people of all ages and levels of experience to see, learn about and even ‘try their hand’ at some of the many art and craft forms that are practiced in the local area.

Other highlights include, a visit to Bangor Castle Walled Garden for an Alfresco Afternoon on Sunday 6 August (12pm – 4pm) – when a host of local artists, wood turners and makers will be giving free demonstrations for everyone to enjoy – and Arts Night at the Museum on Friday 11 August – when every nook and cranny will be filled with arts activity to experience, participate in or observe.

Mayor of Ards and North Down, Councillor Robert Adair, said: “With one of the largest concentrations of artists and craftspeople living and working in Northern Ireland, Ards and North Down is home to a thriving creative industry. The Creative Peninsula gives visitors the unique opportunity to see some of the very best of local arts and crafts, and to meet and engage with the makers behind the pieces.”
