Mourne’s Sinn Féin Councillor Willie Clarke has met with Infrastructure Minister Chris Hazzard regarding his concerns about a public pedestrian footpath on the Bryansford Road / Rowley Meadows junction in Newcastle which being obstructed by a wall forcing pedestrians onto the busy Bryansford Road causing risk to life and limb.
Councillor Willie Clarke said: “It is an issue that has been lobbied on by a number of elected representatives, including myself over the years.
“This unacceptable obstacle, impacts on all pedestrians, including the elderly, disabled, citizens with mobility difficulties, and young mothers with buggies.”
Councillor Willie Clarke speaking following discussing the issue with residents, over the weekend, said: “They are very frustrated that this matter has not been resolved.
“I have asked Minister Chris Hazzard to intervene to ensure that Department of Infrastructure officials, begin the process to ensure the removal of this section of wall, so pedestrians do not have to be forced to walk onto the Bryansford Road, risking their lives from oncoming vehicles.”
