Newry Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson Launches Financial Assistance Funding Workshop

Newry Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Cathy Mason recognises that the past 18 months have been very challenging for community and voluntary sectors as well as tourism businesses within the district. Council wishes to assist these sectors by highlighting the financial support available to them, through attending an online funding workshop on Thursday 9 December at 7pm.

Cllr Cathy Mason, chair of Newry Mourne and Down District Council, has launched a financial assistance package for the community and voluntary sector, and for arts and tourism.

Newry Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Cathy Mason said: “These have been very challenging times for us all and never before have we as a community been so reliant on the kindness of the community and voluntary sectors and the services they provide.

“We as a Council want to provide as much assistance as we can to enable them to continue to thrive and provide the much-needed support that they have supplied during these unprecedented times.

“I will be hosting the ‘Council Chairperson funding workshop which aims to provide groups and individuals with information on potential funding and support currently available. I look forward to welcoming you to this on-line event”.

The Funding workshop will include presentations from the Confederation of Community Groups, County Down Rural Community Network, and a variety of funders such as the National Lottery Community Fund, Community Relations Council and Sport NI. A funding information document will also be provided to assist groups containing current funders information.

There will also be a presentation on the Newry Mourne and Down District Council Financial Assistance programme which provides a range of funding to the community and voluntary sector. In the year 2021-2022 the Council awarded £1,465,203 towards 364 applications across 18 themes, including Community Engagement, Summer Schemes, Irish Language and Local Biodiversity.

This year the Council wants to build upon this success and during our first call, which opens on 6 December, there will be 17 different themes available to not-for-profit community and sports organisations.

There are also two tourism themes, Arts and Culture Projects and Tourism and Art Events which are open to for-profit companies.  As in the previous year these will be opened through our online grant management system which can be accessed via:
