Slieve Croob Councillor Cathy Mason has called on the Department for Infrastructure to install a grit box on the Crabtree Road near Drumaness.
Sinn Féin Councillor Cathy Mason said: “The Crabtree Road is a small rural road but is home to a number of businesses including a very busy creche and nursery. (writes Laura Barr).
“It is also used as an unofficial shortcut from the main Ballynahinch Road to the village of Drumaness.
“The mixture of both these issues has led to the road becoming congested at certain times of the day”.
“During the last spells of cold weather, the road has become treacherous, with many vehicles forced to abandon along the roadside.
“With the criteria for gritting being so tight, the Crabtree Road does not qualify to be added to the schedule.
“And I have therefore requested that a salt box be installed at the junction of the Rosemount Road.
“I would urge the Department for Infrastructure to consider my request for the safety of the road users,” added Cllr Mason.
