Sinn Féin calls on speeders to slow down in Newcastle
Sinn Fein Councillor Willie Clarke supports the initiative recently launched by Sinn Féin to help reduce traffic speed in Newcastle.
They have received a number of complaints from local residents and parents about cars speeding through the town.
Cllr Clarke said: “I have been inundated with complaints in relation to speeding cars in Newcastle. At the weekend members of the local Newcastle Sinn Féin Cumann erected several slow down signs along a number of roads in Newcastle in an effort to help reduce the speed of traffic travelling through the area.
“It is not an ideal situation that action had to be taken, but if it prevents even one accident and makes it safer for residents crossing the road to local schools and businesses, then it will have been worth it.”
The traffic in Newcastle tends to peak from a Friday evening through the weekend and is busing through the school holiday periods.
Drivers are asked to drive with due care and attention observing speed limits.
