Sinn Féin seeks traffic solution to congestion in Valentia Place and Bryansford Gardens Newcastle.
Sinn Féin Mournes Cllr Willie Clarke, Willie Clarke, has called upon DFI Roads to introduce a one way scheme in the Valentia Place and Bryansford Gardens area of Newcastle.
Cllr Clarke said: “There is a major problem caused by an increase in traffic travelling through these areas to access services and to use it as a short cut onto Newcastle Main Street, avoiding congestion at the Donard corner.
“Traffic movements are now becoming almost impossible to negotiate, particularly in the Bryansford Gardens area. Cars are being parked without due diligence in this residential area, causing residents to be trapped in their homes.
“Having raised this issue at several meetings with DFI roads officials at Council meetings, I am disappointed they have not brought forward a suitable proposal in regards to the problem of traffic issues in the area. There has been no movement from DFI Roads to progress a scheme that will make the area safer. This is totally unacceptable.
Cllr Clarke added: “I have written to DFI Roads requesting an urgent meeting to discuss the need to develop a scheme that will address the many traffic issues in the Valentia Place and Bryansford Gardens area of Newcastle. These measures include parking and traffic calming to improve safety for pedestrians.”
