CHECK in is now open for a new production featuring a cast of characters, all new citizens landing in the ‘Arrivals’ lounge in Northern Ireland. In a single night of theatre, the audience in Ards Arts Centre will meet dozens of people who have criss-crossed the globe to end up in Northern Ireland, each one searching for love, for marriage, for refuge, for work, for passion, for friendship, for inspiration or for a new beginning. Conceived and created by Andrea Montgomery, the play is being staged by Terra Nova Productions, with support by Accidental Theatre, and has been developed by 6 local writers and 6 members of new multi-cultural communities ‘to create a tapestry of interlocking stories’. Hailed as a mix of Robert Altman’s film Shortcuts, with a bit of Brief Encounter, a dash of Argo and a hint of Bollywood, ‘Arrivals’ is an experience not to be missed, according to Community Arts Development Officer with Ards Borough Council, Amy McKelvey: “This is a completely new piece of theatre, unique to Northern Ireland, and reflecting the real mix of cultures and backgrounds of our contemporary communities. It’s funny, sad, thought-provoking and inspiring all at once and I’d encourage anyone with an interest in drama to experience the play for themselves”. ‘Arrivals’ takes place on Wednesday 19 February at 8pm in Ards Arts Centre, Conway Square, Newtownards. Tickets priced £5 are available from the Centre, Tel: 028 9181 0803:
