Charlie Hanlon Opens The Nahinch Music Sessions

Charlie Hanlon launches Nahinch Notes concert series

Downpatrick songwriter Charlie Hanlon kicked off the new series of concerts in Ballynahinch last Friday with over an hour of his own songs, warmly received by a very appreciative audience in the town’s historic Market House.

Charlie’s youth belies a veteran performer who had the audience applauding enthusiastically for every song.

Up-and-coming singer from Downpatrick Charlie Hanlon open the proceedings at Nahinch Notes and was a big hit.

When he encountered some issues with his guitar, one audience member who had earlier been participating in the Nahinch Jam session in Harry’s Place cafe lent Charlie a temporary replacement which – to the crowd’s amusement – he then claimed was a much nicer guitar than his own one.

With an Oasis cover thrown into the mix alongside songs of his own like “Kids Today”, “Godsend”, and his winning new single about growing up in Downpatrick, “Stand”, Charlie had the crowd demanding “one more tune” by the end of the set.

The free concert was staged by the Ballynahinch Community Collective, with the support of Newry Down and Mourne District Council, and was the first in a series of “Nahinch Notes” concerts that the Collective is producing for the town.

On the 18th October the Collective will be hosting a visit from Belfast rap dynamo Leo Miyagee, a show that promises to bring some magic to the Halloween season.

Tickets for all the concerts can be booked on the Nahinch Notes Eventbrite page.
