Following a meeting of Castlewellan SDLP branch last week, Eamon O’Neill raised concerns about maintenance around Castlewellan.
Councillor Mark Murnin has met with council officials regarding the areas concerned and said: “Whilst it is important that all our towns and villages across the district look their best coming into the tourism season, Castlewellan has two major events – The Soma Festival closely followed by the Ulster Fleadh, in July. This represents an excellent opportunity to showcase the town and district with thousands of people coming to the area.
“It was agreed at the meeting to repaint the bases of trees and benches along the main street and Lower Square area and also to start planting flowers as soon as they are ready.
“Castlewellan branch Chairman Hugh Gallagher meet with me to see for himself the areas to be worked on. We are delighted that department officials agreed to meet Mark so quickly. We can now look forward to seeing Castlewellan at its best this summer.”
