Congratulations go to Gavin Corrigan who was named as East Down Referee Of The Year for 2010 at the recent East Down Awards. Gavin was the man in the middle for the 2010 Ulster Under 21 Final between Donegal and Cavan. He also refereed last year’s Down Intermediate Championship Final. Gavin has represented his club and county at the highest level in refereeing. This award is an indication and recognition of his achievements for which we are proud. Best of luck to Michael Cunningham and his St Colman’s colleagues who will contest this year’s McCrory Cup Final against St Patrick’s Dungannon on St Patrick’s Day at the Athletic Ground in Armagh. Could all Coaches of all squads from Under-14 up across all codes, please return all Club Gear that they hold, to the hut on the Bann Roads playing fields on Saturday 19th March between 12 noon and 2pm. The committee intend to take a full inventory and leave sufficient training gear and balls for all teams to use at that venue. The Under-16 Squad started their league campaign on Sunday past away to a very strong Carryduff team. They suffered a heavy defeat. The management were happy with the effort the lads put in. This augurs well for the forthcoming games. Good performances from Paddy Gallagher, Mickey Gilmore and Rossa McCartan. The Minors played Saul in a challenge match last Friday Night at the Bann Road. The lads got off to a win against a weakened Saul side. We will meet them again in the league when we expect them to be a much stronger side. Following last week’s great start to the league Castlewellan Seconds suffered a heavy home defeat to Clonduff. Whilst there was a great effort all round there was not the same confidence in the team this week. That said it is early days so the lads know what they have to do. The Down Under-16 Camogie Team enjoyed a big win over Roscommon on Sunday at An Riocht. All the Castlewellan Girls starred in the win with Aoife Keown bagging 1-2 from midfield with player of the match Ciara Gibson starring at centre half back. Also in defence was Paidi Hawkins with Finola Rice keeping goal. Claire Cleland made an appearance as a second half substitute to contribute to the win. Well done to the Town girls and the Down team. The Under-12 boys training will start on Friday 18th March at the club at 5.30pm.
