Cancer Fund For Children Is Proud To Work With Rory McIlroy At Dubai Duty Free Irish Open

The count down in County Down is officially on for the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open at Royal County Down golf course… and the Cancer Fund for Children will benefit from money raised by this year’s hosts, The Rory Foundation.

The charity that supports local families affected by cancer is thrilled to be benefitting from money raised by World #1 golfer and Cancer Fund for Children ambassador Rory McIlroy’s charity The Rory Foundation throughout the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open.

The charity will also have a presence at the event that will include an information stand for anyone who wants to find out more about its work and how they can help fund this.

In the lead up to the Open there will be various events taking place in aid of Cancer Fund for Children such as a GAA Legends match on May 25 in Newcastle.

Cancer Fund for Children’s chief executive Gillian Creevy, said: “We are thrilled that Rory is back in Newcastle supporting a hard-working local charity that is close to his heart. In October, last year, Rory officially opened our Daisy Lodge therapeutic short break centre and donated £1m towards the running costs.

“Over 400 exhausted families have already enjoyed a relaxing break there where they have benefited from the unique support of our Specialists and been able to spend time together and recharge. Money raised via the Rory Foundation at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open will help us continue to provide short breaks in addition to other vital services such as one-to-one support, residentials, financial support and bereavement support.

“Our aim is to ensure no child or family faces cancer alone. If you are lucky enough to have a ticket to any of the Open events why not pop over to our tent and say hello!

“There will be tons of exciting fundraising events happening in the run up and during the Open. Keep an eye on our website for all the up to date news.”

The charity will be a beneficiary of the Irish Open as it raises money through various events during the Fringe Festival such as GAA Legends Exhibition Game on May 25 at 7pm and the Food and Blues Festival on May 30-31st from 11am to 7pm.

CEO of the Rory Foundation, Barry Funston, said: “It’s great working alongside Cancer Fund for Children and being able to support the work they do for children and their families. Their hard work doesn’t go unnoticed. We hope all of the attendees at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open will get behind us so we can raise much needed funds for the Cancer Fund for Children to further support them.” For more info or to find out about how you can help and upcoming events log onto:
