Sinn Féin Slieve Croob Councillor Stephen Burns has welcomed a response by Roads Service to concerns he raised with them around the reoccurring problem of flooding on the Kilmegan Road, Castlewellan.
Cllr Burns said: “A number of residents raised with me their concern around flooding which was occurring on certain parts of the Kilmegan Road throughout the year which was causing difficulty for themselves and drivers. Whilst I am aware that previously Roads Service installed drainage, it is clear that this only worked temporarily and is now of no use. “I raised this concern with Roads Service who have now replied to inform me that they will include the renewing or possible extension of the soakaways in the Kilmegan Road drainage system in their 2014/15 programme of small scale drainage works. “This will be welcome news for residents and will hopefully provide a solution to their flood worries.” Cllr Burns added: “As well as this I have requested that grit piles be provided due to the hazardous nature of this road during wintery periods. Roads Service have indicated that they will carry out an assessment on the need for this and I look forward to hearing from them further on this issue.”
