Alliance Councillor welcomes DfI decision to install a pedestrian crossing in Saintfield beside Community Centre.
Alliance Rowallene councillor Patrick Brown has successfully secured the implementation of a new pedestrian crossing at the recently created Saintfield Community Centre.
Cllr Brown said: “I am really pleased to have received confirmation from the Department of Infrastructure (DfI) that the pedestrian crossing will be implemented before the end of Summer. Work is set to commence at the end of July for approximately two weeks. This meas the project will be completed in a relatively small timeframe, causing minimal disruptions to residents.
“This pedestrian crossing will be greatly welcomed by the local community who have been asking for increased road safety in the town for some time. This new measure is a result of continuous lobbying of the Department by myself and others, so it is great to finally have a confirmation on timeframes.”
Cllr Brown added: “As Saintfield becomes increasingly popular with a rise in both residents and visitors, there are understandably concerns around the additional traffic passing through and the risk this poses for pedestrians.
“The Saintfield Community Centre is a hub of activity and a true asset to the town. I am delighted to see that it is being utilised in such a beneficial manner, from sports and fitness classes through to family support groups.
“The pedestrian crossing at this location will increase the Centre’s accessibility, and allow more people to use it, including students at Saintfield High. As such, I’d like to thank the Department for its commitment to improving road safety in the area and I look forward to seeing the crossing in place.”
