Rowallane Councillor Patrick Brown is calling on further improvements to a set of traffic safety lights installed on the Downpatrick Road in Crossgar.
Alliance councillor Patrick Brown has welcomed the recent implementation of road safety measures in Crossgar, with the introduction of the two new islands in the centre of the Downpatrick Road, near the SuperValu.
However, he is now calling for Translink to move the bus stop and shelter a little further into the town, in the direction of AJ’s Diner.
Cllr Brown said: “Whilst I am pleased to see that the Department of Infrastructure have improved road safety in Crossgar, I am also aware that the combination of the newly installed islands with the bus stop is having an impact on traffic flow while the bus has stopped.
“As such, I appreciate and understand the concerns of local businesses and residents, who are worried that in an attempt to increase pedestrian safety, there will also be a surge in traffic congestion around the bus stop.
“I hope that Translink will be open to the small adjustment in location, which would lead to a considerable improvement in traffic flow.
“I look forward to working with them on this, so that we can ensure our roads are safe, whilst also providing ease of travel in the community.”
