Bright GAC trustee Sean Stranney given tribute from his club
“The committee and members of Bright GAC are saddened to hear about the death of our club trustee Sean Stranney (from Ballylucas Rd), husband of Bernie and father of Colm and the late Marion, who died unexpectedly at home (writes Cyril McKinney.)
“We pray for the family at this sad and difficult time. May Sean rest in God’s Eternal Peace. Amen.
“Sean Stranney was a devoted GAA man and a Bright man through and through. Sean had a distinguished career as a player before being a very committed trustee of the club and dedicated committee member.
“Very few club functions were missed by him and his knowledge and memory of club games and county games throughout Ireland was phenomenal. He was the go-to person to clarify the smallest detail of any game or player whether it was recent or not.
“As a player he had a reputation as being very competitive but at the same time highly regarded and respected by opposing teams and players as one of the best in the county at that time.
“Sean was an engaging modest man with a great sense of fun and sense of humour. The patrons of the Castle Inn in Ballynoe will long remember Sean and his friends Patsy and Eddie hold court while they watched and discussed GAA games at length – especially Down and Tyrone.
“Now and again those present were entertained by Sean’s famous chair dance. Little did we know we were lucky to witness first hand Sean and Bernie’s last waltz round the dance floor to Big Tom’s Gentle Mother at a Bright function.
“Sean you will always be remembered as a Bright Legend and we offer sympathy and condolences to Bernie, Colm, Nicola, his grandchildren Emma and Eva and sisters and brothers Margaret, Michael, Billy and Barbara at this very sad time. May he rest in peace.”
