“This is in an effort to deter visitors to the village from parking their cars in private developments and along the main road, sooner than pay the meagre entrance fee to Tollymore Forest Park. [caption id="attachment_23938" align="alignleft" width="200" caption="Newcastle SDLP Councillor Carmel O'Boyle has expressed her concern over cars and buses parking outside the main gates of Tollymore Forest Park."][/caption] “At times the situation is absolutely appalling with coaches and cars parked on the pavements outside people’s front doors. The drivers and occupants then walk across the road and enter the forest park, thus avoiding having to pay the entrance fee. “The penny-pinching attitude of these people beggars belief, but what is worse is that when they return to their vehicles, some of these people actually relieve themselves outside of people’s homes and change their babies’ nappies before discarding them along the green areas. “I am calling upon all visitors to Tollymore Forest Park to adopt a more responsible attitude, to take their vehicles inside the park, pay the small charge for doing so, and show some respect for the residents of Bryansford. “A meeting is to be convened within the next month which will be attended by members of Bryansford Village Committee, local residents and councillors and representatives from the DRD. “In the end of the day, people may park legally along a main road if their vehicles are taxed and provided they are not causing an obstruction. But what is happening in Bryansford goes beyond a question of legality. This is about good citizenship, about respecting local residents and about being responsible people. The small cost of taking a vehicle into the forest park all helps to maintain the beauty of the place which we want everyone to enjoy. Unfortunately, some people do not believe they need to pay for anything, and we need to encourage people to change this mindset,” added Councillor Boyle.]]>
