Aughlisnafin GAC are extremely pleased to confirm the appointment of Conor Deegan as senior team manager for the coming season. After his feats for Down in the eighties and nineties which saw him win two All-Ireland Senior and an All Ireland Minor Football Championships under Pete McGrath, and also saw great success with his club R.G.U. Downpatrick, it was Dublin club Kilmacud Crokes where Conor saw out his playing career.
Such was his enthusiasm to remain involved the GAA he made a natural progression into coaching and management having gained a wealth of knowledge and experience from his playing career both in Down and in Dublin. His first senior team management role was with Dublin Division 3 side Skerries Harps, before moving on to Division 2 side Naomh Mearnog. In 2013 he took Division 1 side Ballyboden St. Endas to the semi final of the Dublin senior football championship. Last season Conor returned to his adopted home club of Kilmacud Crokes before moving back home to County Down.
After celebrating ten years since the re-formation of the senior team the club is now looking to move forward into the next decade with a greater sense of purpose. A strong youth structure, which was set up in 2008, will see the first group of minors stepping up to the senior team and the next few years will be a very exciting time for the club both on and off the field. We are very lucky to have a man of Conor’s calibre on board and he will have our absolute support going forward.
