Ardglass GAC Notes

Games update The Ardglass Fish Sales Sponsored Under-8 team travelled to Dundrum on Saturday morning for their final tournament of the season and returned with the Campbell Racing Trophy after a fantastic victory over Dundrum B. Ardglass played three group games and  in the first game they played Dundrum A team. This was a close encounter with the Ardglass team defending very well. Ardglass had two heroes in this game with Gavin O’Shea performing heroics in nets making five fantastic saves and was unlucky to concede a goal in the first half, at the other end of the pitch Abby Byrne scored three second half points from play and frees to secure a draw writes Paul O’Shea. [caption id="attachment_29987" align="alignright" width="400" caption="Ardglass lift trophy in the Dundrum U-8 blitz."][/caption] In the second game against Aughlisnafin, Ardglass started slowly and conceded some early goals and never recovered the gap. During this game Dylan Addis played well at Midfield with some great high catches while Miceal Fitzsimmons produced a fine defensive display in the No6 Jersey. The final group game against Saul was a proverbial game of two halves as Ardglass started brightly with wind in their favour they dominated possession however they failed to register a score. At the turnaround in was a no score draw. Saul with wind advantage claimed an eight point win despite the best efforts of James Crangle, Rachel McElhone and Dara O’Shea, the group results meant Ardglass qualified for the Trophy Final against Dundrum B. In the Final Ardglass finally found their shooting boots and early goals from Ryan Cusack, Flinn Morgan and Conor Morrison and points from Jack O’Shea and Niall Morrison gave Ardglass an unassailable lead. The defence was rock solid throughout the final with keeper Jamie McDarby keeping a clean sheet and Lorcan Toner and Michael Curran keeping the Dundrum attack scoreless. Ardglass Captain Dylan Addis was presented the Trophy by Down player Conor Laverty.
