Ardglass FC Prove Too Strong For Drumaness Reserves

Ardglass FC first team get off to good start in League campaign for new season

The Newcastle and District Amateur Football League,

Premier League Match,

Venue, The Meadow, 14th September 2024,

Final Score: Ardglass FC  2   0  Drumaness Mills Reserves.

Ardglass entertained Drumaness Mills Reserves team on a cool afternoon at The Meadow  and survived a few anxious moments to maintain their unbeaten start to this league campaign writes Cyril McKinney.

The first half saw both sides largely cancel each other out without neither side creating a serious shot on target.

Drumaness had one half chance on 25 minutes when the veteran Mills number 9 Philip Rogan crossed from the right wing and with the net at his mercy Mills left winger Gavin McEvoy missed the ball completely.

The second half was much the same until 53 minutes when a through ball found Sean Carr in front of goal and he got his shot away and past the advancing Steven Rogan in the Drumaness goal to give Ardglass the lead.

Drumaness fought back immediately and Ardglass keeper James Crangle had to be alert to save at the feet of Oran Bolton who was sent clear by a great surging run and left wing cross from McEvoy.

Then on 71 minutes the hard-working Ardglass striker Michael Magee was upended in the box and a penalty was awarded which was dispatched with ease by number Caolain Deegan sending Mills keeper Rogan the wrong way.

Last season league champions Ardglass had other chances including hitting the post twice and could have won the game with more ease than they did.

Drumaness had some good performances from some well seasoned campaigners such as Philip Rogan and Gavin McEvoy whilst Ardglass’ young squad showed great promise including a Man of the Match performance  from defender Malachy Crangle who was a rock at the back.
