AP McCoy, recently awarded a knighthood in the British New Year’s honours list, is one of many racing stars taking part in The Kube fundraiser for the Robbie McNamara Fund at the Killashee Hotel in Naas, Co Kildare on Saturday January 30th at 7:30pm.
The 36 contestants taking part include 18 jockeys such as 10-time champion National Hunt jockey Ruby Walsh, 8-time Flat champion jockey Pat Smullen, record-breaking Flat Jockey, Joseph O’Brien, two-time champion Davy Russell, leading lady rider Katie Walsh, champion Point-to-Point rider Jamie Codd, champion amateur rider Patrick Mullins, Gigginstown House retained rider, Bryan Cooper along with rising stars of the weigh room Jonathan Burke, Adrian Heskin and Conor Hoban.
Trainers stepping up to the plate include Andrew McNamara, Conor O’Dwyer, Paul Nolan, Stephen Nolan and Chief Executive of the Irish Racehorse Trainers Association, Michael Grassick.
TV and radio presenter Hector O’hEochagain and Kildare footballer, Alan Smith are also taking on The Kube challenge.
At The Races presenter, Matt Chapman will act as MC. There will also be a charity auction on the night.
The fundraiser is based on the television game show The Cube, which offers contestants the chance to win a top prize by completing challenges from within a 4m x 4m x 4m perspex cube.
Limerick-born jockey, Robbie, was paralysed from the waist down in a fall at Wexford Racecourse in April 2015 and spent five months in hospital and rehabilitation. All monies raised will go to the Robbie McNamara Fund which enables Robbie to continue with his ongoing medical and practical requirements.
20-time British Champion National Hunt Jockey AP McCoy, said: “I’m still as competitive as ever so I’m really looking forward to taking on my old weigh room friends and giving them a run for their money. I’d urge as many people to come along on the night to cheer us on and support the Robbie McNamara fund in the process – it’s going to be a great night.”
