Patricia Morgan is officially selected for Comber fo the Ards and North Down Borough Council
It has been announced that Patricia Morgan has been officially selected to fill the Ards and North Down Borough Council vacancy for the Comber electoral area.
Alliance Councillor Alderman Deborah Girvan has retired after her long service.
Patricia Morgan said: “I am very excited to have been selected by Alliance to represent the people of Comber, Ballygowan, Killinchy, Lisbane and the surrounding areas.
“I am very much aware that Council money is taxpayers’ money, so I will work hard to ensure that Ards and North Down Borough Council is run in the most efficient and effective way possible, to ensure that every penny of public money is well spent.
“Strangford Lough, Comber and the surrounding villages are special. I want to help to keep it that way by supporting local people, businesses, charities and groups.
“This means, among many things, mending roads, reducing litter, and ensuring that facilities such as the leisure centre, play areas, community halls, green spaces and car parks are well maintained and developed.
“My background is farming and I am an enthusiastic walker, cyclist and sailor, and I am particularly passionate about protecting and improving the environment where we all live both now and for the future generations.
“It is important that we invest in new facilities, particularly opportunities for walking, cycling and using public transport.
“Also, I am keen to support the new Greenway extension connecting Comber with Newtownards, and the new Translink Park and Ride facility in Comber.
“I am interested to hear local peoples’ opinions on how these opportunities might work best for everybody.
“Being a newly elected Councillor for Comber, Ballygowan, Killinchy, Lisbane and the surroundings areas is greatly exciting and I am really looking forward to the challenge.”
Alderman Girvan made the decision to step down after nearly eleven years of service representing Comber on Ards and North Down Council.
Reflecting on her experience as an outgoing elected representative, Deborah Girvan said: “It has been such an honour and a privilege to serve the people of Comber District Electoral Area.
“Without a doubt, the highlight of my time on the Council was when I was the Mayor from June 2016 to June 2017, which gave me the opportunity to travel around the Borough and meet people from many walks of life”.
Deborah added: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many people who have helped me on my political journey.
“I am delighted that local woman Patricia Morgan, an excellent and experienced colleague and candidate, has been selected to take over from me on Council.
