ALLIANCE Newcastle Councillor Patrick Clarke has welcomed Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) completing the remainder of works replacing outside damaged electricity cables to buildings along Main Street Dundrum. Following a number of site inspections and replacement of outside electricity cables running along the to the frontage of the buildings over the summer months requests were made by Councillor Patrick Clarke for the repairs to be carried out.
Councillor Clarke explained he previously made representations to NIE who own and maintain the exterior wiring to inspect the exterior cables due to pieces of insulation on electricity cables along the Main Street buildings showing deterioration as well as wear and tear.
He said: ‘The majority of buildings along Main Street Dundrum are listed and it had been noted that some pieces of the insulation outside certain sections were very badly worn, missing and damaged, and it was imperative that NIE carried out works to replace the damaged electricity cables.
“NIE had previously carried out repairs to some buildings periodically along Main Street to replace exterior electricity cables which had become damaged through age, wear and tear and with the buildings being along the coast they are subjected to the elements.
“I am very pleased that the replacement of exterior electricity cables to buildings completed by NIE following my concerns and representations.”
