Alliance Councillor Patrick Clarke has strongly condemned vandalism at a Castlewellan Church.
Four windows at St. Paul’s Church of Ireland Church in Castlewellan were damaged recently when vandals struck. Councillor Clarke has appealed for anyone with information or who noticed any suspicious activity around the Church in Castlewellan to contact the PSNI.
He said: “I wish to strongly condemn the recent and deliberate vandalism in which four windows at St. Paul’s Church of Ireland Church in Castlewellan were damaged. The damage caused penetrated through the protective covering on one of the windows such was the force used by the vandals with some damage also caused to a stain glass window. “The recent attack has caused deep annoyance and dismay with parishioners of St. Paul’s Church who have no idea why anyone would want to inflict this type of damage. “Any Church is a sacred place of worship and there can be no place in our society for this type of criminal damage. Cross-community relations in Castlewellan are very good between all the local churches so the recent attack I believe was one of just vandalism.” “I would urge anyone who has any information or who noticed any suspicious activity to contact the PSNI on the non-emergency number 101.”
