Councillor Patrick Clarke from Dundrum has been nominated as an Alliance Candidate for election for the new Newry, Mourne and Down District Council.
Dr Michael Healy,  election agent for Patrick Clarke and Chairman of  South Down Alliance said: “Patrick Clarke will be contesting the Slieve Croob Electoral Area which includes his existing base in Dundrum and Castlewellan.
“A law graduate, living in Dundrum, he was first elected to Down District Council in 2011 and has been a tireless worker for the area. He continues to be a strong campaigner for the retention of services in Downe Hospital, and for rural development and tourism.
“Two other Alliance candidates will also be contesting seats in the new Newry, Mourne and Down District Council.
“Patrick Brown is standing again for the Rowallane electoral area where he increased the Alliance vote three years ago. Rowallane includes Ballynahinch, Saintfield, Crossgar and Killyleagh.
“Also, Ciaran McAvoy, a physics student at Queen’s University, Belfast, will be contesting the Mournes Electoral Area, which includes his home town of Newcastle.”
