Richard Barnes, Gordons Chemists, said: “Our customers love the P20 range. It’s great value and known as the brand for active people in the sun! When they approached us to ask if they could donate proceeds from sales to our nominated charity, we welcomed the idea as it tied in perfectly with our annual Safe Sun Roadshows.”
Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in Northern Ireland. More than 3,300 people in Northern Ireland are diagnosed with skin cancer each year. However, many skin cancers can be prevented. Action Cancer’s annual Safe Sun Campaign aims to get the message out to as many people as possible on keeping safe in the sun and how to detect skin cancer early.
Frances Dowds, Health Promotion Manager at Action Cancer commented “Thanks to funding from Gordon’s chemist Action Cancers Health Promotion team delivered SafeSun road shows right across NI. Our awareness raising work emphasises the importance of slipping on a t-shirt, slapping on a hat and slopping on sun cream. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in NI accounting for 28% of all cancers.”
Action Cancer relies heavily on donations from the public and business communities in Northern Ireland to provide a range of vital, life-saving services including a breast screening service for women aged 40-49 and 70+, men’s MOT health check, health promotion, research, counselling and complementary therapies.
