FIRST Minister Rt Hon Peter D. Robinson MLA today (Tuesday 23 October) joined some of the UK and Northern Ireland’s top names in road racing to launch the 2013 International North West 200.
Held in May each year, the North West 200 race meeting is one of Northern Ireland’s largest annual sporting events.
Speaking at the launch in the Waterfront Hall, the First Minister said: “The International North West 200 will be a highlight of our sporting and tourism calendar for 2013. As a premier racing event it continues to attract world class riders and increasing numbers of spectators each season.
“The 2013 International North West 200 will showcase the best that Northern Ireland has to offer to a global audience and bring significant opportunities for the economy and local businesses. Tourism has key role to play in the economic development of Northern Ireland and the Executive has placed its development at the heart of its draft Programme for Government.
“I congratulate Coleraine and District Motor Cycle Club for their vision in looking to continually enhance the road racing experience for both riders and spectators.”
