THE Driver & Vehicle Agency (DVA) has advised customers with tax discs expiring on 31 May 2011 that the reminder notices they have received in the post may be incorrect.
Rates of duty changed on 1 April 2011 following the Chancellor’s Budget in March but some of the reminders issued in May showed the old rates instead of the new ones.
The Agency has identified all of those affected, and customers should get new reminders within the next few days, and well before their tax discs expire at the end of the month.
A spokesman for the Agency said, “We apologise to all of the customers affected, and for any inconvenience they experience as a result. This was a mistake on our part arising from a timing issue about when the information needed for the reminders was extracted from the computer system. Steps have been taken to ensure that it doesn’t happen again.”
The Agency has confirmed that the correct rate of duty must be paid regardless of the amount displayed on the reminder notice.
Staff in the Agency’s local vehicle licensing offices and in Post Offices will be able to advise customers on the correct amounts of duty to be paid.
