Bryansford Traffic Needs Assessment Says Truesdale

Councillor Calls for Traffic Assessment in Bryansford

Councillor Jill Truesdale has asked for a traffic assessment to be carried out in the village of Bryansford considering a number of new residential homes being constructed close to the main Hilltown road.

She said: “The road itself from the Bryansford Road junction into the village is in very poor condition but once onto the main throughfare it is a wide, straight road which does give the opportunity to build up a considerable speed.

Mournes Councillor Jill Truesdale is calling for an assessment to be completed on road safety on the Hilltown Road at Bryanford.

“All of these villages have grown in recent years as they become popular and desirable areas to live. Unfortunately, speed reductions and considerations from a lot of drivers has not followed suit.”

Cllr Truesdale has written tothe DfI to determine if a reduction in speed limit is possible as well as resurfacing at the Bryansford Road junction.

She added: “I will also be following up on previous issues on the Burrenreagh Road junction from Hilltown Road where speed limit signs still clearly sit on the junction indicating it is 60mph.

“A traffic assessment was added to a schedule of works in 2022, but obviously it appears not to have happened.xa0

“Having cars at 60mph going past two residential estates is complete madness, but again people need to learn to drive according to the conditions and the surroundings.

“It is the responsibilty of the driver to navigate the roads safely.”
