Brown speaks to DfI about Killough speeding on Fisherman’s Row
Patrick Brown MLA has contacted the Department of Infrastructure (DfI) to request increased speed control measures following repeated speeding at Fisherman’s Row in Killough.
The Alliance South Down MLA said: “I called down to Fisherman’s Row last week after being contacted by constituents concerned about speeding cars, especially at the corner.
“The road is particularly narrow, and I know that traffic issues here have been ongoing for a long time, with my Alliance colleague Cllr Cadogan Enright campaigning to have these improved.
“Issues here have worsened over the years as the population of Killough has grown, and it is essential that there is action to reduce speeding and prioritise safety as soon as possible.”
Patrick Brown added: “I have contacted the Department for Infrastructure to request that a traffic assessment is carried out,.
“And I have asked them to look into what steps can be taken to reduce speed on this dangerous stretch of road.
“Whilst there are speed bumps in place, these are too low and have worn down significantly.
“I have asked that DfI look into raising these existing speed bumps and putting additional signage in place.
Also I have suggested s putting in speed measurement cables to measure average speed of vehicles and the numbers of vehicles coming through at peak times.
“And I have raised these speeding issues with the PSNI to see if they can send any additional resources to monitor speeding in the area.
“Cllr Enright and I will continue to lobby DfI to ensure that these safety measures are put in place at the earliest opportunity,” he said.
