Woman Dies in RTA in Bishops Brae area
Police can confirm that a woman has died following a single vehicle road traffic collision in the Bishop Brae Avenue area of Downpatrick.
Inspector Porter said: “We received a report shortly after 2.30pm, Tuesday 14th February, of a serious collision in the area.
“Officers attended the scene together with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.
“Sadly, the 35-year-old mother of three, Michaela Curran passed away at the scene of the accident.
“Michaela’s husband and children are devastated by her death and ask for privacy at this difficult time.
“The road was closed for a period of time, but has now reopened to traffic.
“The family have asked for privacy at this difficult time.
“Our enquiries are continuing.”
SDLP South Down MLA Colin McGrath said: “The community of Downpatrick is in shock at the news of the death of a local woman Michaela Curran in a terrible accident in the Bishops Brae area.
“My thoughts and prayers go out to Michaela and her family at they come to terms with this terrible news.
“By all accounts this was a tragic accident and the family will be distraught at this time.
“I know the community of Downpatrick is strong and will rally round for the family in their desperate moment of need.”
