Friday night saw young people from the Russell Gaelic Union, Downpatrick, take part in the Newry, Mourne and Down Policing & Community Safety Partnership’s (PCSP) Summer Diversionary Programme. Last week the programme took place at Páirc Esler with the Newry Shamrocks GAA Club.
This free Programme, which takes place every Friday night during the months of July and August, is aimed at youth aged between 12-16 years. The programme was developed to combat the increase in anti-social behaviour during the summer evenings. Up to 450 young people, ranging from the Ballyhornan to Camlough area, will be participating in the programme.
Community Groups were invited to submit an expression of interest to the PCSP Department and the successful groups were allocated on a first come first served basis.
The young participants will enjoy two hours of bubble football during which the PSNI Neighbourhood Policing Teams and the Magnet Youth Advice Centre will be in attendance to offer advice and information on community safety issues such as internet safety, implications of Anti-Social Behaviour and the effects of drugs/alcohol.
