Shimna Stars Special Olympics Club AGM Report
Shimna Stars Special Olympics Club recently held their AGM in the Burrendale Hotel. In his annual report Chairman Daniel Hardy reflected on the continual development and improvement within the club since its formation on 2007.
The 2013/14 year once again involved huge commitments from Athletes and Volunteers on and off the court. During this year the Male Team achieved 2nd place overall in a very competitive Ulster League. Four athletes were selected to represent the Club and Team Ulster at the Ireland Special Olympic Games in Limerick, well done to Glenn McBride, Liam Hennessy, Peter Watts and Sean Brannigan. In respect of the Athlete Leadership Program Michelle Coyne and Peter Watts both received their Bronze Awards, congratulations to both athletes and many thanks to Anne and Eamon for their support and encouragement. The 2014 year has also seen an increase in volunteer numbers. Many thanks to all those who make themselves available on a Tuesday evening to assist and encourage our athletes.
The 2014 year also saw the launch of the club facebook page, the continued development of the club website and also the regular updates via local press.
As with all voluntary organisations fund raising is popular topic and a great deal of thanks must go all those who organised events, family members, carers, local councillors, the general public and those who supported the club by way of grants during the year.
Following the election of officers for the 2014/15 year, Chairman, Daniel Hardy thanked all those in attendance and wished the incoming committee best wishes for the year ahead.
With the 2014/15 league format finalised the clubs next fixture will be in Letterkenny on 22nd November for games against Northwest A and Ards Wizards. The club will take a break from sporting activities with the annual Christmas outing on Tuesday December 9th.
