JIM Shannon MP for Strangford and member of RBP 675 has congratulated the Black Institute for a wonderful day of culture and tradition at the parade in Ballynahinch.
He said: “It was truly a great day with 113 Preceptory groups and bands on parade and crowds thronged the route from Langley Road to Belfast Road for both outward and return journeys. A few showers earlier to keep us all cool but sunshine on the return was very welcome as people reached for sun tan lotion for uncovered skin and especially scalps.
“The traditional end to the marching season usually concludes with Black Saturday but this year it will conclude with the Unionist Centenary Parade on the last Saturday in September.
The Royal Black Preceptory is bible-based and the banners this year and every year reflect this with their bible readings there for all to see. At the biggest RPB parade in Northern Ireland, the whole of Co Down in splendour carried out the parade that has all the best bands, melody, pipe, accordion and flute and they have done their organisation proud and are a credit to it.
“All on parade were dressed immaculately and did what they do best… promote our culture, history and tradition in the way that it should be done. Well done to Ballynahinch district and the community for making black Saturday this year so memorable.”
