Ritchie Says Impact On South Down Quarry Industry Must Be Mitigated

dn_screenSouth Down MP Margaret Ritchie (SDLP) has reiterated disappointment that the European Commission State Aid Investigation has found that aggregates levy exemptions for shale constituted unlawful state aid and called on the Treasury to mitigate the impact this will have on the quarry industry in South Down.

She said:xa0“Shale is an important and fundamental to the quarry industry in South Down. I asked the Secretary of the Exchequer to detail the case that his Department made for the shale industry to the European Commission State Aid Investigation.”

“The Chancellor must now ensure that the impact on the quarry industry and businesses affected is mitigated as far as possible. I will continue to work with the quarry industry and make representations to the Treasury on this matter.”
