Residents In Drumaness Complete Fourth Litter Pick

Drumaness village clean up well on the way as residents join in

Residents young and old in Drumaness, County Down, came together to spruce up their village with a group litter pick.

Drumaness Community Association’s project to encourage more young people to take pride in their area was supported by a £1,500 Community Involvement Grant from the Housing Executive.

Drumaness Community Association said: “We had a good turn out from people of all ages for our recent village clean up.

Drumaness and District Community Association members were out in Drumaness village on Saturday 12th October doing a community litter pick up with the support of young residents. This is a project designed to clean up the area and give people pride in their village. “This was one of four litter picks held and part of a wider project to encourage young people to get involved in activities to improve their village and boost community relations.

“Our young people planted floral displays in planters made by our local Men’s Shed for display around the village and they also organised tea dances for the senior citizens.

“We recently thanked them for their hard work and commitment with a trip to an adventure sports centre.

“Many thanks to funding from the Housing Executive for allowing us to facilitate this project.”

Gerard Smith, Good Relations Officer at the Housing Executive, said: “We’re proud to support this project which reflects the huge pride the residents of Drumaness have in their community.

“Seeing young people working to improve their local area is fantastic and organising events for older people is helping create better community cohesion.”
