The 2011 Red Arrows team will perform a fly past this Saturday June 22 in Newcastle.[/caption] Down District Council’s Events Development Officer Ann Moreland has announced that the Red Arrows will be making a surprise visit to The Mournes on Saturday 22 June when they will perform a special flypast for Newcastle ahead of their full display as part of the Festival of Flight on Saturday 10 August 2012. Ann reported that on a recent visit to Northern Ireland, Red 10, Squadron Leader Mike Ling confirmed that the world famous RAF aerobatic display team will visit Newcastle on their return journey to the RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire following their visit to Northern Ireland. She added: “We are currently completing our festival programme and the line-up is amazing this year with five super fast, super displays and we are sure the visitors will be wowed with the sights and sounds of what promises to be a very special weekend in August. “And we are particularly proud that the RAF have agreed to perform this flypast especially for Newcastle on Saturday 22 June, and it will heighten the excitement when we will see their 2013 team perform their amazing acrobatic display on our event day.
