NIFRS personnel made the area safe and damage was caused only to the bins, which were destroyed.  A similar incident took place on Sun 26 May.

Sgt Richard Smyth Newcastle PSNI said: “We are fortunate no one was injured in any of these incidents. But I would remind those responsible that to play with fire is a very dangerous thing.  Fire is completely unpredictable and can jump or change direction very quickly.  It can not only cause damage to property but could end in the loss of life.”

Police would ask anyone with any information to contact them at Newcastle on 0845 600 8000. If you prefer to provide information without giving your details you can contact the independent Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
