Council Chair Says Be Safe At Home This Christmas
How safe is your home for the coming Christmas festivities ?
Newry Mourne and Down District Council would like to highlight the potential risks of accidents in the home as we approach the Christmas Season.
Your home is the one place you should be safe, but unfortunately this is where most accidents happen.
Some causes of accidents are obvious such as chip pans, open fires, and stairs, however, there are many more that are not as noticeable.
The Council offers FREE confidential Home Safety Checks to families with young children under 5 and over 65 years old. People suffering from an illness or disability can also benefit from the service as well.
Newry Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Cathy Mason said: “None of us want to think of something tragic happening to our loved ones at home so, it is vitally important that we don’t ignore the risks and do everything we can to help prevent an accident happening.
“If you or someone in your family is over the age of 65 or under five years old or vulnerable, please contact the Council for your free Home Safety Check, it could mean the difference between life and serious injury or death.”
During a Home Safety Check a trained Home Safety Officer will offer you advice, tips and guidance on keeping your home safe. And during the call or visit, the Officer will discuss the potential dangers around your home, offer advice and where appropriate, free equipment to make your home safer.
Home Safety Officers are also available to carry out talks to community and voluntary groups.
