Work gets Underway on Essential Sewerage Infrastructure for New Developments in Newtownards and Comber
NI Water will commence work on essential new sewerage infrastructure to serve new developments at Scrabo Road Newtownards and the Killinchy Road, Comber.
The Scrabo Road scheme will get underway on Thursday 31st March and take approximately 8 weeks to complete. The work will serve a new housing development located adjacent to 150 Scrabo Road. This essential work will involve the laying of around 450m of sewer pipe and the construction of associated manholes. BSG-Phace Group Ltd is the contractor for this essential scheme.
An NI Water spokesperson said: “In order to undertake the work as safely as possible, the first section of work on Scrabo Road from the Ballycullen Halt junction to the Old Belfast Road junction will be undertaken using temporary traffic lights and is expected to take 3 weeks to complete.
“The second section of work on Scrabo Road will require a road closure from the junction of Ballycullen Halt to the junction of Moate Road. During the road closure period (expected to be 15th April – 20th May) access will be maintained for residents who live within the road closure area as well as pedestrians, and the road will be reopened each weekend.
“The agreed diversion route via Old Belfast Road, Messines Road, Comber Road and Moate Road will be signposted.
“A second scheme will get underway in early April to lay a new storm sewer on the Killinchy Road – between nos. 26 and 50 Killinchy Road – to serve a new housing development in the area.
“The work, which will involve the installation of 290m of storm sewer and the construction of associated manholes, is due to commence during week commencing the 4th April 2022 and will take approximately 6 weeks to complete by contractor A.G. Wilson Civil Engineering.
“In order to carry out the work as safely as possible, it will be necessary to have a temporary lane closure in place on the Killinchy Road as part of the works. During this time, two-way traffic will be maintained with the use of temporary signals. Vehicular access will be maintained for residents, but at times could be subject to delay. Pedestrian access will be available at all times.
“Normal working hours will be 07:30am to 5:00pm; however, it may be necessary on occasions for work to be undertaken outside of these hours.
“Traffic management will be in place for both schemes and signage will be displayed as the work progresses.
“NI Water and our contractors would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation as we complete this essential work to serve new developments and assure customers that we will do everything possible to minimise disruption.”
