Sinn Féin MLA Caitriona Ruane and Councillor Peter Kearney have collected a petition from local residents calling for traffic calming measures to be implemented in the Ballyholland area
Ms Ruane said: “Sinn Féin have been working on behalf of the local residents of Ballyholland in order to have traffic calming measures implemented as there is heavy traffic use and a fear of a tragic accident happening. This has included a survey of residents which showed overwhelming support for a comprehensive traffic management scheme.
“It is important that we protect the lives of the local residents by putting in measures that will slow the traffic down as traffic regularly speeds through Ballyholland. This is a built-up area which is home to a number of elderly residents and young families so road safety is a major issue.
“We are disappointed that the DRD Road Service have failed to grasp the level of concern in the local community as they have stated they have no intention at present to install traffic management measures.
“Myself and Councillor Peter Kearney have now collected a petition from the local community and intend to present it to the local management of DRD Road Service in an effort to have the decision overturned.”
