Over 50 people including 25 international guests attended the Newry Mourne and Down District Council seminar entitled ‘EU Mobility in Rural Europe’ Thursday 1 December in the Canal Court Hotel, Newry.
Newry Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick said: “Seminars such as this one promote social and cultural integration and provide opportunities for local and international stakeholders to network, paving the way for future collaborative working.”
The seminar was part of the European Rural Network for Job Mobility Project which aims to connect people from different European Union countries and to raise awareness of their common values and needs. Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is one of the project partners together with other local authorities from Spain, Portugal, Italy, Poland and Slovakia.
Independent broadcaster and journalist Jim Fitzpatrick chaired the seminar and key speakers included the Mayor of Vimianzo (Spain) Manuel Antelo Pazos, Dr Lucy Michael from the University of Ulster, Chief Executive of Newry and Mourne Co-operative and Enterprise Agency, Dr Conor Patterson and Mary Kerr from the Northern Ireland Strategic Migration Partnership.
The European Rural Network for Job Mobility Project is co-financed by the Europe for Citizens Programme of the European Union.
