Pupils from Mourne Stars Speech and Drama have certainly not let the Coronavirus lockdown dampen their spirits!
Teacher Clare Murnin has adapted her classes to new online versions for all age groups and has used the popular app Zoom to teach the classes from Monday to Thursday which has allowed pupils to enjoy their Speech & Drama sessions to develop their communication skills and literacy.
Clare added: “There are also a number of pupils who are entered for their graded examinations with New Era Academy. The exam board are also able to deliver these exams remotely via the app Zoom so the children aren’t missing out on vital learning time and progress.
“The online classes have certainly proved very popular and have been a welcome break from school work. Pupils are enjoying the classes and are loving the fact that they can still see their friends and interact with them.
“I was so keen to keep the Speech & Drama classes up and running for the benefit of the pupils. I am very much an advocate of the benefits of Drama and how confidence and strong communication skills can really give children a great start in life.
“The online classes are as interactive as possible, I have the children up on their feet engaging in performance, recitals and promoting the enjoyment of reading stories and poetry.
“I am just so pleased with parents’ reviews and the lovely comments emailed to me every week. Parents are so complimentary and thankful. Some of my favourite emails let me know that their son/daughter came away from class ‘laughing’ and ‘wouldn’t stop talking about it’.
“It is also great for the children entered for examinations to still be able to work towards these which gives them a great sense of focus during these uncertain times.”
